Why We Refuse to Track You

Why We Refuse to Track You

Most modern software is built on a simple, Faustian bargain: you get convenience, and the company gets to watch how you use it.

They call it telemetry. They claim it is used to "improve the user experience" or "detect crashes." But when you are writing a novel, a personal journal, or a sensitive piece of journalism, every click and keystroke is highly personal. Having a telemetry engine log when you open files, how long you write, and what features you trigger is an invasion of your creative sanctuary.

The Problem with Modern Analytics

When writing software runs analytics in the background, it creates a subtle pressure. You know you are being observed, even if the data is supposedly aggregated or anonymous. This constant telemetry streams back to corporate databases, building behavioral profiles.

We believe that writing software has an ethical obligation to protect the writer's privacy.

Underleau's Privacy Shield

Underleau is built native on Tauri, which allows us to wrap the compiler and storage interface directly in your operating system's sandbox.

  • Zero Telemetry: We do not include Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any background tracking packages in our desktop build. We have no idea how many hours you write or which buttons you click.
  • Local Keychains: Your vault security keys and sync credentials are encrypted and stored in your operating system's native keychain (such as Keychain Access on macOS or Credential Manager on Windows) using Tauri Stronghold.
  • Local-First Default: Your vaults stay strictly on your local disk. We do not require a login, an email, or an active connection to start writing.

Your words are your thoughts. We don't want to see them, analyze them, or monetize them. They belong to you.
